Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is US Handball Union?

—————–
US Handball Union is a nonprofit founded to support handball in, you probably guessed it, the US. This includes providing things like extending an insurance policy to members, helping clubs host sanctioned playing opportunities, offering competition structures, connecting members across their own handball projects and our initiatives, and sharing information (like this website).

Who can join the Union?

—————–
Everyone! Whether you’re an athlete, coach, referee, starting or managing a club, or just an enthusiast wanting to get in on all the handball action, this is the place for you. Click Become a Member or email membership@handballus.org if you encounter any issues or have any further questions!

What do I need to do to participate in a USHU event?

—————–
All participants in USHU events must be USHU-member individuals and clubs. You can Become a Member in only a few simple steps. After that, you’ll want to find a club (or start your own!) so that you have some teammates, at which point you’ll be ready to play handball by attending practice or entering league and tournament events!

Who do I talk to about joining a club?

—————–
We encourage our member clubs to keep contact information up to date on their club and team pages, but we can also help you find where to play and who to talk to: membership@handballus.org.

Handball is awesome, can we partner with USHU?

—————–
Yes, USHU can facilitate sponsorships and donations for its member clubs, its events, its year-long competitions, and even to support the US Handball community in general! We’re always on the lookout for great partners who can help us spread the love of the game. Email us at sponsors@handballus.org to start the conversation!

There's no club in my area, now what?

—————–
Rats! But that was true for every area at one time or another, and now look at all the teams playing across America! We’re happy to talk through options to help find you a way to play, or even share a how-to on starting your own club! membership@handballus.org.

Can you help me start a club at my college?

—————–
We’d be happy to get your college on the fastest track to playing handball and competing for our Collegiate National Championship–We even have a guy for that! Reach out to JD@handballus.org, he’s our Head of Collegiate Development–every college and university is a little different, but he’s done this a bunch of times.

I want to host a handball tournament or event, what's the process?

—————–
If you have questions about how to get started and how the process works, email events@handballus.org for information and the options we can provide to help you host handball. You can also, especially if this isn’t your first rodeo, get the sanctioning process started by sending us your Event Request Form.

Who is in charge of competitions?

—————–
If you’re talking about a particular event or competition, you’ll want to reach out to events@handballus.org. If you are interested in joining or have question about season-long standings and regional leagues, competition divisions and structures, or year-end championships, you’ll want to email mike@handballus.org who can answer all your questions as USHU’s Executive Director and current Chair our Competition Committee.

Give me a whistle and I'll do the rest, how can I be a handball referee?

—————–
Especially in conjunction with our sanctioned tournaments, we will offer education and certification opportunities for new and experienced officials throughout the season. The first thing you’ll want to do is contact the Handball Referees Association to help you get started.

I'd like to play for Team USA, am I in the right place?

—————–
We are not the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s National Governing Body for Handball (translation: we’re not in charge of picking the national teams). However, if you want to learn handball, join a club and/or play as many matches as possible–undoubtedly key ingredients to eventually representing the US internationally–then you’re in the right place.

Where can I send a complaint or a report of unethical or harmful behavior?

—————–
To report a behavior or occurrence at a USHU activity or event that you think might violate USHU Code of Conduct or other Policies, or with questions about the reporting or complaint process: ethics@handballus.org. We take all reports of misconduct very seriously, and appreciate you reaching out so that we can do our part to address it and protect our community.
